One-year Plan: A Parent’s Guide To Helping Children Succeed In School

“Come on.don’t you want to do this? I promise I won’t tell any of the others. We can just have some fun and no one would know!” Her voice now held the hint of sarcasm as her hands reached for his belt once more.

You rationalized by telling yourself that it’s okay because after all you have the whole REST Of the YEAR to get it right. Then a couple of days later the whole scenario played out again. Not too mention that the exercise program you had started the week before just did not quite fit into the schedule this week. Just too much going on. Work, household chores, after-school activities, church activities, you name it. You’re just too busy All the time.

Making extra from home is becoming the norm and if you can write well that is the way to go. Blog and article postings are not the only way to make money writing. Editing plays and movie scripts are becoming prominent means of writing. Let’s not keep cash on the table explore all options.

Role-play scenarios with your children where sticky, uncomfortable situations may arise and train them to rise above them. Ask questions such as: “What would you say if your best friend offered you a cigarette?” “What would you say if a member of your circle of friends said you were un-cool?” Remember, role playing is an integral part in helping your child to avoid smoking. These types of rehearsals can mentally prepare your child for real-life situations.

Remember to spy (physically go through your child’s things) only if they give you reason to believe that they could be in harm’s way. If your child is willing to talk openly about what is going on in their life then you should avoid going through their things and listen. Spying in this way should only be done as a last resort. Following your child around in an unmarked car is less meddlesome than ransacking your child’s belongings. Your child will not be too offended by this gesture, just a bit freaked out. So it is always okay to follow your child if you suspect something is wrong.

Yes goodbyes are difficult. Hopefully, we learn something from each one of these losses (or changes in our lives). As with my dad, he was the one who truly taught me the meaning of love. I lost him when i was only 22 years old. That left an enormous void in my life. He never got to see, know and impart his wisdom to my children. These losses have helped me grow stronger in my life.
