Create a supply list and go over it with your child. Make sure you have everything you need before classes start. Otherwise, you will find reasons to delay or cancel classes as you run back and forth for supplies. Place everything in the appropriate bins and areas for easy use later.

When the child’s time is divided equally between his parents, it is called “split custody”. This arrangement can work well for parents who work different shifts. One parent is available when the other parent is at work. Both parties save the cost of child care, and the kids spend their time with their parents, instead of strange care givers.

Your decision to homeschool you first grader is a great responsibility. Don’t panic. Don’t stress out. Yes, this is an important time in the life of your child, and you may not feel prepared or capable. Relax. Have fun. Your child will learn every thing he needs if you enjoy school.

Show your interest in his hobbies and school activities, among others. Encourage him to get involved in his school clubs, sports and other things that he may show interest in. You can also regulate and monitor what he watches on the television. See to it that he doesn’t watch too much violence or those that promote gangs and riots. Regulate the sites that he can visit on the internet.

This way there are no distractions or disruptions for the child to encounter. The child is better able to concentrate in familiar surroundings. It is reassuring for the parent in knowing that the child is actually learning the proper lessons and values that they want to pass on. The child is thus shielded from potentially negative influences in a school setting where, sadly, we often here in the news tragic instances of bullying, for instance.
