Characteristics of the Curriculum
The curriculum features the subjects to be distributed on an average in each school year. From the fundamental principles of education and welfare through a young childfs growth and development, and the knowledge about the contents and methods of childcare, broad knowledge and skills can be learned reasonably step-by-step. Moreover, the practice teaching in kindergartens for 4 weeks, and the childcare practice and elective childcare practice at daycare centers and social welfare institutions are carried on for 30 days in total.
Students who work for companies affiliated with the Higher Education and Career System have 3 classes a day from 4:10 p.m., three days a week, and the other students have 2 classes a day from 6:00p.m., five days a week. The class continues basically for 80 minutes during 34 weeks a year (or 17 weeks over a half year period) from April through the end of February of the following year. Since the class starts later in the evening in consideration and convenience of work and family life, it is possible to aim for certificate and qualification within a reasonable schedule.
Students can learn wide range of knowledge from the philosophy of education and welfare to the growth development of children. Students are required to practice teaching at kindergartens for 4 weeks and for about a month at nursery schools or welfare institutions.
